Infraestudio proposes an architecture of ideas that—in his own words—is an Idealist Architecture whose constructions do not depend on reality to exist.
The exhibition is made up of eight works that materialize only through a narrative.
Starting from ideas, the pieces build an architecture made for our mind; disembodied and antisensory, with as many forms as readers
The pieces presented are described below.
In Your Mind (2022)
Imagine an Architecture that is shown through words, idealistic with as many forms as readers, built by you, in your mind.
Bipolar Restaurant (2018)
Imagine a restaurant on the left and one on the right, which are the same. A building divided into two perfectly symmetrical halves, but decorated in opposite styles. The fine and luxurious finishes on the right are opposed, on the other side, by visible construction materials and old used objects. The same is served in both. The ends draw circles.
Gardens That Don’t Exist (2019)
He walks through the city collecting empty glances, and in each of these, he imagines a garden that doesn’t exist. * Inspired by an idea by Alberto Kalach about Havana
House in Zaza (2018)
To inhabit the countryside, imagine a house open to the landscape with as little interior as possible. As long and narrow as the furniture that inhabits it.
Art Residencies in Linea 508 (2016)
In the backyard of an old house, now converted into a gallery, a new building is hidden behind a neglected and banal wall. Such a wall, just like the one shared with the neighbors, redraws the boundaries of the land and makes us forget that the new building is still there. When we don’t want to change anything, a truth that seems like a lie may be the only way to be hones
Pavilion Detained in Old Havana (2017)
In the landscape of a city frozen in time, our obsession is to stop the inescapable: stopping an event at its maximum saturation point. To achieve this, let’s imagine building a concrete ceiling along the entire length of a flat roof. Make your formwork as easy and cheap as possible, and once everyone is waiting to pour the concrete, don’t do it. Just clean up the place and bring in chairs and tables. This new roof will show the absence of what will not be. * Inspired by the story “El Conflicto” by Virgilio Piñera.
Voyeur’s Parliament (2021)
The most important political decisions, like sex, only happen in the privacy of closed doors. Imagine a parliament that we can enter as voayeurs and go through tunnels, passageways and false ceilings with peepholes. We could observe without being seen, what happens inside the offices, meeting rooms, bathrooms…* Inspired by “The Voyeur’s Motel” by Gay Talese
Grotto House (2017)
For an untouched landscape, imagine a house that looks like two stones. As close as about to kiss, and from the distance that separates them a cave is born. * Inspired by the sculpture “Kiss” by Wilfredo Prieto.
Untitled (Bridge) 2020
In Havana, the museums of Art History and Politics are located opposite each other. Imagine a bridge that unites them and turns them into a single building. It would be like building something that was always there.
